Charles’ love for his brother kills me =\[ I don’t know exactly what it says about his brother to have let him taken the fall, especially knowing he himself would never come back and Charles would be left behind to take the brunt of it all, but it says \*something\*. He took Charles’ money too! Charles offered it, but Charles needs a chance to get away as well! I honestly don’t know if he was using Charles, or genuinely wanting to spend his last day with him for good measure, or both. I want to lean more toward the former, because he also dismissed Charles frustration with him and told him to take it elsewhere. I don’t know. But I love the complexity of this dynamic you’ve presented. (It’s also possible Charles is unreliably narrating all of this….who knows….)

His love for his brother also kills me lol This chapter definitely says a lot about Xavier's character, but what he's actually thinking and his motives behind all of this is obscure due to the limited POV which is my intention, but also all will be revealed in time. I will say that Charles is not an unreliable narrator, and he says no lies, but he is still a human narrator speaking of things that happen 10+ years in the past, and whose emotions can mess with how things are written.

That's good to know! I've read a couple of first-person stories where the narrator was meant to be extremely unreliable, but it wasn't clear until later. They gave me trust issues lol. I love that detail with you taking into account that time can do funny things to memories.
