“Another night of lukewarm inertia.” Lovely line. I reaaaally liked the interaction between Charles and his brother suddenly talking to him—you captured that surprise so well. It is EXACTLY how my interactions went with my siblings when they iced me out as kids, and then just…started talking to me like nothing happened after months! This whole chapter was very interesting. Charles strikes me as someone who’s haunted by the ability to be extremely self-aware and think about so many things and read into it (not that he’s wrong to feel upset about his brother’s hot & cold demeanor at all).
