It says a lot that Charles was still looking to die at the time. It’s not like failing the first time helped him realize he wants to live—he’s absolutely miserable and he can’t stand it anymore. “City of Mud” really made me think about how, although there’s a whole lot of downsides to concrete being EVERYWHERE in a city…it must have been a nightmare having to deal with mud every time it rained. Wow. It just didn’t occur to me. The things we take for granted!\ \ “Though, to be fair, neither does the Minister.” gave me a chuckle!\ \ The way this chapter ends… </3 It’s even more saddening that Charles expected SOMETHING to become of this, but in all the time that’s passed, his brother says all of 5 words to him. I suspect his brother feels betrayed Charles would leave him and his mother; if he’d been any later walking in, then he’d have found his brother he grew up with, dead. That’s a lot to handle.

Yeah it's definitely a lot of handle, which causes a lot of mixed emotions, that he very much does not handle well
