Hello again, gentle readers! It's time for another footnote, as some Japanese has been spoken in this chapter. So first, of course, Fuji says 'Dōmo' [どうも] which of course means 'Thanks.' The word 'dōmo' shows up a few more times, both in this chapter and throughout the story, as being polite is very important to those who admire the Japanese. Hank replies to Fuji by saying 'Kochira koso!' [こちら こそ] which means 'It is I (who should thank you!)' This is a common reply that humble people give when they're being thanked. Next! While in the cab, as the two of them squabble over who should pay the driver, Hank says 'Chottomatte. Kudasai.' [ちょっと待って。ください。] This means 'Wait a minute. Please.' Fuji responds with 'Iie iie, Hank-sama. Sa senai.' [いいえ いいえ、ハンク。させない。] which means 'No, Hank. I won't let (you.) Well, Hank got the better of that little tiff, as not only did he get to pay the driver, but he also got to give Fuji a squeeze. Later on, while in the stairwell, they decide to give each other nicknames. Hank calls Fuji a 'Tribal Queen' (Buzoku Joō" [部族 女王]) and Fuji calls him a 'Big Hero' (Ijōfu, [偉丈夫].) So that was fun! I sure can't wait to see what this foursome starts calling themselves next. 💜💚💛❤
